CyVerse Subscriptions: 2025 Pricing & Resources
With a CyVerse subscription, you can scale storage and compute resources to meet the scientific needs of your project, team, or class, from data upload to publication. CyVerse handles security and replication, data management and storage, and server, CPU and GPU node configurations for you, so you can do open science, your way, today!
Note: Starting January 1, 2025, some important changes to subscriptions will take effect:
- Resource quotas and costs for Pro and Commercial accounts will increase, as per the table below; Basic and Regular accounts will remain the same.
- You can renew your subscription for up to 2 years starting as soon as 30-days before your current subscription ends (subscription will renew upon the last day of your current subscription).
- The Discovery Environment dashboard will more clearly show your subscription tier, expiration date, along with data and CPU resource usages, making it easier for you to proactively manage your resources.
- You will have the option to buy 5,000 additional compute hours for $100; this option is designed for users who run out of their compute resources but still have data storage and time before their subscription ends.
- The rate for additional storage-only purchases will increase to $250/TB/year for double-copy data storage (data are mirrored daily at TACC). Storage costs are not pro-rated, e.g., if you have 3.4 TB of data, you would need to buy 4 TB of add-on storage-only. For requests of >100TB of add-on storage, please contact support@cyverse.org.
- Effective Jan. 1, 2025, CyVerse will begin to notify users whose accounts are over their applicable quota that they have 30 days to subscribe to a higher tier or to move data to meet their quota. If their storage continues to exceed their quota after 30 days, data will be swept automatically from the CyVerse Data Store, in order of oldest to newest data by date uploaded. Data removed by automatic sweep cannot be recovered, so please take necessary steps to resolve any quota overage.
- Workshop requests to teach using CyVerse resources will require the instructor to have a Pro or Commercial account and include limits on student enrollment (see FAQ below for details).

FAQ
General
CyVerse's support from the core awards from the National Science Foundation has ended. Projects like CyVerse normally get support from NSF for 10 years; due to its resounding success, CyVerse received an additional 5 years of support, which ended in 2023. While we will continue to pursue funding to support a base level of access for our users, we need to charge for people/projects that need and use more resources. Everyone at CyVerse has worked diligently over the past 15 years to provide users with the support and training to get computational research and instruction done, and now is your chance to help support us, for which we are deeply appreciative.
The increase in costs for Pro and Commercial subscriptions as of January 1, 2025, will be our first cost increase and reflects our increased costs for the services, features, hardware and staff required to operate and maintain CyVerse cyberinfrastructure. Note that storage and compute allocations also will increase for Pro and Commercial subscriptions, and that there are no changes for Basic or Regular subscriptions at this time.
No, you will not lose immediate access to any data or analyses if you do not subscribe or renew your subscription. Upon expiration, your account will default to the Basic tier data storage limit. If you are over the 5GB limit, you will be unable to add new data. Effective Jan.
Yes, you can still access public data in the CyVerse Data Commons without a subscription.
Unfortunately, no. You need to subscribe to a paid tier in order to receive DOIs for your data. Learn which tier is right for you by viewing tier features in the table above. Previously assigned DOIs will not be affected.
Yes! The CyVerse user portal lets you link different emails and identity management systems so that your work in CyVerse moves with you, without interruption, as you grow in your career or change institutions.
Resources & Usage
You can easily see your current usage stats by logging into the Discovery Environment dashboard and looking at "Resource Usage". To help you manage your usage, the DE will also display badges as your data usage approaches your storage limit. The DE will display a blue info badge when usage hits 50% of your limit; a yellow warning badge when you are at 75% of capacity; and a red error badge when usage hits 100% of capacity.
From within the Discovery Environment Data view, you can only see individual file size; there is not a way to see the size of a folder at this time. You can use DataHog, one of the Featured Apps in the Discovery Environment, to learn more about the size of your files and folders to help you manage your storage. Instructions on how to use DataHog can be found here or watch this 1-min video on DataHog.
If you exceed your limit, you will not be able to add new data (which may also affect running analyses that deposit new data into your account). If that happens, you can either delete data or subscribe to a higher tier to increase your data storage. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, CyVerse will begin to notify users with data in excess of their subscription's quota that they have 30 days to remove data, upgrade their subscription, or buy more 'storage-only'. If after 30 days their data continues to exceed their quota, data will be swept from the CyVerse Data Store, in order of oldest to newest data by date uploaded, to comply with their quota. Data removed cannot be recovered so please resolve any overages in a timely manner.
Yes, it will increase based on the subscription level. See the specific features of each Subscription tier in the table above.
Unfortunately, no. Storage limits are the upper bound of what you can store, much like how other cloud data storage solutions work.
No, analyses do not count toward your data storage limit. The “My Analyses” view shows all the analyses (jobs) you have launched and their current status (submitted, running, completed, canceled or failed). You can see a summary view of all your analyses from the DE Home screen.
Once you exceed your storage limit, you will not be able to add any more data (e.g., new data or data results from running analyses). You can either buy a higher tier subscription or CyVerse has a Storage-only purchase option; click the "Choose subscription" button to do either option. Effective January 1, 2025, CyVerse will begin to notify users with data in excess of their subscription's quota of their exceedance and that they have 30 days to remove their data, upgrade their subscription, or buy more 'storage-only'. If after 30 days their data continues to exceed their quota, data will be swept from the CyVerse Data Store, in order of oldest to newest data by date uploaded, to comply with their quota. Data removed cannot be recovered so please resolve any overages in a timely manner.
When your paid subscription lapses or expires, your account reverts to Basic/free level resources, i.e., 5 GB of data storage and 200 CPU hours. You will have 30 days to renew your account or to remove data to meet the Basic tier storage quota of 5 GB. Effective January 1, 2025, CyVerse will begin to notify users with data in excess of their subscription's quota that they have 30 days to remove their data, upgrade their subscription, or buy more 'storage-only'. If after 30 days their data continues to exceed their quota, data will be swept from the CyVerse Data Store, in order of oldest to newest data by date uploaded, to comply with the user's storage quota. Data removed cannot be recovered so please resolve any overages in a timely manner.

Unfortunately, no. But please note that any Pro and Commercial subscription renewals made on or after January 1, 2025 will renew at the new cost BUT will also come with higher storage and compute resources. There are no changes in cost or resource quotas for Regular accounts that are renewed after January 1, 2025.
Groups, Teams & Teaching
Every member of a team or lab does not need a subscription; however, there are advantages to each collaborator having a subscription. Storage and analysis limits are currently enforced for individual accounts. If an individual holds all the group's data and runs all the analyses, that one person can buy a subscription. However, if all team members have subscriptions, then all members can make full use of all the features of their tier. Please feel free to contact us so we can work with you and your team to find a solution that works best for you.
Yes! Departments can purchase individual subscriptions on behalf of its members. Please contact us for details on how to do this for more than one person.
No. As a subscriber, you can share your data with your collaborators and since those data are in your account, it only counts against your storage and analyses limits.
Effective January 1, 2025, users who request Workshop resources via the User Portal for teaching with CyVerse must have a Pro or Commercial subscription (Pro users can request up to 4 workshops, Commercial users can request up to 8). Additionally, enrollment per workshop will be limited to 50 students.
If you aren't sure, please contact us.
Thanks to the State of Arizona's Technology and Research Initiative Fund (TRIF), we offer Pro subscriptions to CyVerse for free for University of Arizona students, faculty and staff. Please sign up using your institutional email through our user portal.

Purchase Additional Resources
Storage Only: All domestic and international CyVerse account holders may purchase additional storage space over the 5GB Basic tier quota. Effective January 1, 2025, rates for add-on storage are $250 USD per Terabyte (TB) per year for double-copy data storage (data are mirrored daily at TACC). CyVerse does not pro-rate TBs. For example, if you would like to store 4.4TB in the CyVerse Data Store, you would purchase an allocation for 5TB of data. For requests of >100TB of add-on storage, please contact support@cyverse.org.
Compute Only: All domestic and international CyVerse paid account holders (Reg, Pro, Commercial) may purchase additional compute-only resources (CPU hours). Effective January 1, 2025, the rate is $100 USD for 5,000 CPU hours. This option is intended to accommodate users who've exceeded their compute quota but still have time on their subscription and data storage available.
