About this Webinar
Need something a little refreshing while you're hunkered down during this challenging time? How about a taste of Orange? In this finale to our spring webinars, researchers and students interested in approaching machine learning and data mining to conduct basic data analysis get a "fruitful and fun" introduction to Orange, an open-source machine learning and data visualization toolbox for novice and expert alike. Presenter Dr. Francesca Vitali of the University of Arizona's Center for Innovation in Brain Science (CIBS) teaches us how to use Orange to construct basic data analysis workflows. Using the interactive toolbox, she demonstrates key features of Orange and provides instructions and ideas on how to use Orange to conduct preliminary data analysis and basic machine learning to facilitate hypothesis generation from your data.
About the Presenter
Dr. Francesca Vitali is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona in Dr. Roberta Brinton's group, and is on the faculty of the Center for Innovation in Brain Science. She received her PhD in Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy. Her postdoctoral research under the mentorship of Prof. Riccardo Bellazzi involved developing methods to fuse biomedical and genomic data to investigate therapies for complex diseases. Currently, Dr. Vitali's main research interests are in bioinformatics, artificial intelligence and big data analysis techniques, with applications in drug repurposing and automated biomedical image classification for precision medicine. During her career, Dr. Vitali not only developed strong programming experience with different languages and solid knowledge of data mining, statistics, and data integration techniques, she became very efficient in working in multi-disciplinary collaborative teams. A highly experienced trainer in teaching both researchers and students in how to use Orange, Dr. Vitali's expertise will help you incorporate this incredibly intuitive tool in your research practice.
